Your PrEP journey starts by visiting a health professional. Any medical or nurse practitioner in Australia can prescribe PrEP.
If your usual general practitioner (GP) needs help with prescribing PrEP, we have a letter for clinicians you can download and take to your appointment.
If you don't have a regular clinician who can prescribe you PrEP, you can find a PrEP-friendly medical or nurse practitioner on our map.
There are also online PrEP prescribers if you can't make it to a clinic in person.
When you see your PrEP health profressional, they will arrange to run a few tests for:
HIV
Kidney function
Other STIs
During your visit, you will get a prescription for PrEP to start preventing HIV right away.
